FAQ

How do I handle the extreme altitude?
The race is at 3,000m+ (10,000ft). Arrive at least 3-4 days early to acclimatise. Hydrate more than usual and avoid alcohol entirely pre-race.
What permits do I need to enter Tawang?
Indian citizens need an Inner Line Permit (ILP), and foreigners require a Protected Area Permit (PAP). Apply online at least 3 weeks in advance.
What is the race day temperature like?
In late October, mornings are very cold (near 0°C). Expect temperatures to rise to 12-15°C during the day. Layering is essential.
Where is the packet pickup?
Bib distribution usually takes place at the Gyalwa Tsangyang Gyatso High Altitude Stadium two days before the event. Bring your registration ID and permit.
Are there significant inclines on the course?
Yes, the Tawang Marathon is notoriously hilly with steep gradients. It is a high-altitude mountain road course, not a PB course.
How do I get to Tawang?
The nearest airport is Tezpur, but Guwahati (GAU) is better connected. From Guwahati, it is a 12-14 hour drive via mountain roads; consider a stopover in Bomdila.
