FAQ

How do I get to the start line in Porto Moniz?
The race provides mandatory or optional shuttles from Funchal and Machico to the start in Porto Moniz for the 115k and 85k races. It is highly recommended to use the official race transport due to the mountain roads.
Where is the race bib (packet) pickup?
Packet pickup typically takes place in Funchal at the Technical Secretariat a few days before the race, or in Machico. Check the official MIUT website for the specific schedule 2 weeks prior.
What gear is mandatory for the 115k race?
Mandatory gear includes a waterproof jacket with hood (min 10k mm), thermal blanket, whistle, two torches with spare batteries, 1L water capacity, and a mobile phone.
Is it possible to send a drop bag to the mid-way point?
Yes, for the MIUT 115km and 85km races, you can provide one drop bag that the organisation will transport to the life base (typically Curral das Freiras).
What is the terrain like for MIUT?
Extreme technicality. Expect thousands of stone steps, steep climbs, technical descents through laurel forests, and exposed ridges. Trail shoes with excellent grip are non-negotiable.
How do I return to my hotel after the finish in Machico?
If you are staying in Porto Moniz, there are limited transport options back from the finish in Machico late at night. Most athletes choose to stay in Machico or Funchal for the final nights.
