- How do I get to Ayder Village?
- Fly into Rize-Artvin Airport (RZV). From there, take a HAVAŞ shuttle to Pazar, then a local dolmuş (minibus) or private transfer to Ayder. Total travel time is approx 1.5 to 2 hours.
- What is the terrain like for Kaçkar by UTMB?
- Expect technical, high-altitude alpine terrain. The course features steep climbs, rocky ridges, and glacial lakes typical of the Pontic Mountains.
- Is there mandatory gear?
- Yes, UTMB standards apply. You must carry a waterproof jacket, emergency blanket, whistle, mobile phone, and a minimum of 1L water capacity. Check the final participant guide as high-altitude weather changes fast.
- Where is the packet pickup?
- Packet pickup is typically located at the Race Village in central Ayder, near the thermal springs entrance, the day before the start.
- Will there be snow on the course?
- September is usually clear, but at 3,000m+ peaks, light snow or ice is possible. Bring shoes with aggressive lugs for mud and loose rock.
- Are trekking poles recommended?
- Highly recommended. The vertical gain is significant (over 2,000m+ for the shorter loops), and poles will save your legs on the technical descents.
