- How do I deal with the altitude?
- Addis Ababa is at 2,355m (7,726ft). Hydrate aggressively, arrive at least 3 days early to acclimatize, and expect to run 10-15% slower than your sea-level pace.
- Where is the packet pickup?
- Usually at the Great Ethiopian Run office or a central mall (like Edna Mall) 3-5 days before the race. T-shirts are the 'entry ticket' and must be worn to enter the start pens.
- Is it safe to walk to the start line?
- Yes, if you are staying in the Meskel Square/Kazanchis area. Thousands of runners will be walking in their official race shirts. Keep valuables in your hotel safe.
- What is the wave system like?
- There are distinct waves: Elite, Red (Fast), and Green (Mass). The Green wave is festive, very crowded, and features lots of dancing and music; don't expect a PB there.
- Are there bag drop facilities?
- Official bag drops are limited and can be chaotic. It is strongly recommended to leave your gear at your hotel and only carry what you need for the run.
- What is the typical race day weather?
- November is the dry season. Expect clear blue skies, strong UV rays despite the cool air, and temperatures around 15-20°C by the time the mass race finishes.
