FAQ

How do I get to Sir Bani Yas Island with my bike?
You must take a flight to Abu Dhabi (AUH) followed by a 2.5-hour shuttle or car ride to Jebel Dhanna Jetty. From there, a 20-minute water taxi takes you to the island. Transition logistics usually involve a dedicated ferry for bikes; check with Challenge organizers for specific bike-transport-only ferry windows.
Where is packet pickup?
Packet pickup usually takes place at the Conference Centre at the Desert Islands Resort & Spa on the Friday before the Saturday race.
What is the swim condition in the Arabian Gulf?
The water is typically calm and sheltered by the island. Expect temperatures around 21-23°C in late January, making it likely wetsuit-legal for age groupers.
Is the bike course flat or hilly?
The course is undulating and very technical with several sharp turns. The asphalt is high quality, but crosswinds can be a significant factor on the exposed tracks of the wildlife park.
Are spectators allowed on the island?
Yes, but spectator access is primarily for those staying at the island's three resorts. Day-trippers must book ferry transfers in advance via the venue portal.
What kind of nutrition is available on course?
The event typically provides water, electrolyte drinks (often Maurten or Tailwind), and gels at aid stations spaced every 15-20km on the bike and every 2km on the run.
Is there a cut-off time?
Yes, typical Challenge Middle East cut-offs apply: 1 hour 10 for the swim, 5 hours 30 cumulative for the bike, and 8 hours 30 for the total half-distance race.
