Where is the transition area located?
The transition area (T1 and T2) is typically located at the Itsasmuseo Bilbao (Maritime Museum) grounds, right by the Euskalduna Bridge.
Is the swim in the river or the sea?
The swim takes place in the Bilbao Estuary (Ría de Bilbao). It is brackish water and usually very calm, starting near the Maritime Museum or Guggenheim depending on the distance.
When and where is packet pickup?
Packet pickup is usually held at the Itsasmuseo Bilbao the day before the race. Ensure you bring a valid ID and your triathlon license.
Are wetsuits mandatory?
Wetsuits are usually allowed and often mandatory as the water temperature in the estuary in September typically ranges between 18°C and 20°C.
What is the bike course like?
Expect a challenging and hilly bike course. The route often includes climbs like the Vivero, offering scenic views but requiring good climbing gears.
Can I park near the start line?
Street parking is very limited. It is recommended to use the Euskalduna Terminal parking or stay at a hotel within walking distance of the Maritime Museum.
