FAQ

How do I get to the start line in Marathon?
The race is a point-to-point. Organisers provide free shuttle buses from several points in central Athens (Syntagma, Syngrou-Fix, Evangelismos, and Omonia) between 05:30 and 06:45. Don't miss the last bus!
Where is the Expo and packet pickup?
The Expo is typically held at the Faliro Indoor Hall (Tae Kwon Do Stadium) in the Olympic Coastal Zone. It's accessible via tram from the city centre.
Is the Athens Marathon course flat?
No, it is notoriously challenging. There is a steady uphill climb from roughly 10km to 31km. The final 11km are downhill or flat into the city centre.
What is the gear bag procedure?
You receive a special bag at the Expo. On race morning, you must drop this bag at the designated trucks in Marathon town (near the start) based on your bib number. They will be waiting for you near the finish line.
What happens if I finish late?
The course has an 8-hour time limit. The finish line at the Panathenaic Stadium is iconic, and they usually keep the atmosphere high until the very last runner arrives.
What is the weather usually like?
November in Athens is variable. It is often sunny with temperatures around 15-18°C, but it can be unexpectedly warm or rainy. Dress in layers for the early morning bus ride.
