FAQ

What is the drop bag situation?
Athletes are permitted one finish line drop bag and specific drop bags for the aid stations at 35, 60, and 78 miles. These must be waterproof and clearly labeled.
Is GPS tracking mandatory?
Yes, the race takes place in mid-winter on technical cliff edges; a provided GPS tracker must be carried at all times for safety and timing.
What gear is critical for the Arc?
The mandatory kit list is strict. High-quality waterproofs (20,000mm hydrostatic head), two headlamps with spare batteries, and emergency bivvy (not just a blanket) are essential.
Where does the race start?
The Arc 100 traditionally starts at Coverack and finishes in Perranporth. Note that the race operates a point-to-point format; check official shuttle bus timings from Perranporth.
What are the aid stations like?
Expect 'Arcified' aid stations with hot food (soup, porridge, pasta). They are often located in village halls to provide refuge from the Cornish winter weather.
Can I use poles?
Yes, trekking poles are permitted and highly recommended for the steep coastal climbs and potentially muddy conditions.
How technical is the South West Coast Path?
Extremely. Expect significant mud, granite steps, steep ascents, and narrow cliff-side singletrack that becomes much harder to navigate at night.
