Yes, Kyoto Marathon has a strict 'No Littering' policy to protect the historic city. You are encouraged to carry a small pouch for waste, though aid stations do have designated disposal bins.

The course is undulating with a net uphill in the first half and a net downhill toward the finish. There are several bridges and narrow paths along the Kamo River that require careful footing.
