It is a mix of asphalt for the first few kilometres and off-road desert trails. You will encounter sand, gravel, and hard-packed dirt. Trail shoes are highly recommended.

The full marathon usually starts at 06:00 AM to avoid the peak heat of the day. Half-marathon and 10k runners start shortly after.

While the course is well-marked, the sun is intense. Sunglasses, a cap, and high SPF sunscreen are essential. Even in November, dehydration occurs quickly in the dry desert air.

The course is undulating with a significant net climb as you head into the Eilat Mountains, followed by a descent back toward the Red Sea. It is not 'mountainous' but definitely challenging.
