The terrain in the Sierra Tarahumara is rugged and rocky. Expect significant vertical gain on loose surfaces and high-altitude sections that require technical footwork.

Is there a mandatory gear check?

Yes, being a UTMB event, mandatory gear including a waterproof jacket, emergency blanket, whistle, and minimum water capacity (usually 1L) will be checked.

For races starting in the city, taxis and Uber are plentiful and cheap. For races starting in the canyons (like the 100M), official event shuttles are provided and mandatory.

Chihuahua city sits at 1,400m, but the trails climb much higher. If you live at sea level, arrive at least 3-4 days early to begin acclimatising to the thin, dry air.

Will there be hydration stations?

Yes, but they are spaced according to trail access. You must be self-sufficient between aid stations, which can be 10-15km apart in remote sections.
