FAQ

Where exactly is the race venue and transition?
The event is based at Lake Tikitapu (Blue Lake). Transition and the finish line are located in the large reserve area directly on the lake shore.
How do I get my bike to the venue?
Athletes typically drive their bikes to Lake Tikitapu. Parking is available in designated fields nearby, but arrive early as the road (Tarawera Rd) can become congested.
What is the mountain bike course like?
It features the world-class Whakarewarewa Forest trails. Expect high-grip volcanic soil, flowing singletrack, and technical root sections. It is rewarding but requires good MTB handling skills.
Is the swim in a lake or the ocean?
The swim is in Lake Tikitapu (Blue Lake), a freshwater lake known for its clarity. Wetsuits are almost always mandatory due to the April temperatures.
Where do I pick up my race pack?
Registration usually takes place on the Friday before the race at a central Rotorua location, such as the Sudima Hotel or the Rotorua Energy Events Centre.
What are the expected weather conditions in April?
April is autumn in NZ. Mornings are crisp (around 7-9°C) and daytime highs reach 15-18°C. Be prepared for occasional rain which makes the forest trails tacky and fast.
Are there shuttles from Rotorua city?
There are no official race shuttles. Most athletes use rental cars or ride their bikes to the venue if staying on the south side of the city.
