FAQ

What mandatory gear is required for the snow trail?
You must carry a survival blanket, a whistle, and a mobile phone. While not always mandatory, trail shoes with aggressive lugs or micro-spikes (Yaktrax) are highly recommended for the packed snow.
Where is the bib (packet) pickup located?
Bib pickup usually takes place at the Semnoz ski station building (Le Courant d'Ere) on the morning of the race, typically starting 90 minutes before the first wave.
Is there a shuttle from Annecy city centre?
While there isn't a dedicated race shuttle, the 'Bus d'Hiver' (Winter Bus) runs from Annecy Gare to Semnoz. However, for a 7:00-9:00 start, a rental car or carpooling is more reliable.
Are headlamps required?
Depending on your specific distance (e.g., the night version), a headlamp with spare batteries is mandatory. For the morning races, it's not required but useful for early arrivals in the dark.
What is the typical terrain like?
The course is 100% snow, ranging from groomed Nordic tracks to single-track powder. It is undulating and physically demanding due to the unstable surface.
Can I use hiking poles?
Yes, poles are permitted and highly recommended for stability on icy patches and during the steeper climbs.
