FAQ

Where is packet pickup located?
Packet pickup is typically held at the Event Village in Downtown Big Bear Lake (The Village) on Thursday and Friday. Check the official UTMB guide for your specific distance's time slot.
How do I get to the start line for the 100M or 50K?
The 100M starts in the Village, but point-to-point distances like the 50K often require a mandatory shuttle. Registered runners must book shuttle spots via the athlete portal.
What is the mandatory gear for Kodiak?
UTMB rules apply. You must carry a waterproof jacket, reusable cup, headlamp with spare batteries, emergency whistle, and a minimum of 1L water capacity.
Is altitude an issue at Big Bear?
Yes, Big Bear Lake sits at 2,060m (6,750ft) and the course climbs significantly higher. Arriving 3-5 days early is highly recommended to mitigate altitude sickness.
Can I have a pacer or support crew?
Pacers are only allowed for the latter half of the 100M distance. Crew access is restricted to specific aid stations listed in the official runner's manual.
What are the trail conditions like?
Expect technical single-track with significant vertical gain. The terrain is a mix of decomposed granite, pine needles, and rocky ridges, particularly on the ascent to Sugarloaf Mountain.
