Is the swim in a lake or river?
The swim takes place in the San Juan Reservoir (Pantano de San Juan). It is fresh water with generally calm conditions, but can be deep.
Where is the main transition area located?
Transition 1 (T1) is located at the 'Virgen de la Nueva' beach area at the San Juan Reservoir.
Are wetsuits mandatory for the swim?
Wetsuit use is governed by FETRI rules based on water temperature on race morning. Usually, they are allowed in late September as water temps hover around 20-21°C.
Is the bike course closed to traffic?
The course typically features controlled traffic but is not always 100% closed; expect police presence at all major junctions for athlete priority.
How do I get to the start line from Madrid city center?
You will need a car via the M-501 'Shore Road'. It takes approximately 1 hour from central Madrid. There is no reliable public transport very early on race morning.
Where can I pick up my race pack?
Check-in usually takes place on the Saturday before the race at the San Juan Reservoir venue or a designated sports complex in Madrid. Check the final guide 2 weeks prior.
