FAQ

What time is the Embrunman swim start?
The professional and age-group men start at 05:50 in total darkness. The women start at 06:00. Headlamps or torches are essential for navigating the transition area before the start.
Where does the bike check-in take place?
Bike check-in usually occurs leading up to race day at the Plan d'Eau d'Embrun. Security is high, and you must have your race number and ID ready.
How difficult is the Embrunman bike course?
It is considered one of the hardest in the world, featuring 5000m of elevation gain over 188km, including the iconic Col d'Izoard (2,360m). Standard road bikes with compact gearing (34x32) are recommended over TT bikes.
Are there shuttle transfers from the airport?
No official event shuttle exists from major airports. It is highly recommended to hire a car or use the regional train (TER) from Marseille or Grenoble to Embrun station.
What is the nutrition like on the course?
Aid stations are plentiful but the mountain sections can be isolated. Carry at least two bottles and your preferred salt tablets as summer temperatures in the Hautes-Alpes can soar.
Can spectators access the Col d'Izoard?
Yes, but roads are closed to general traffic quite early. Spectators should drive up before the cyclists or use the designated fan areas in Embrun town.
