FAQ

Where is the main transition area located?
The transition area is traditionally located at the Ballindamm, right along the Inner Alster Lake, a short walk from the Rathausmarkt start.
is the swim in the river or the lake?
The swim takes place in the Binnenalster (Inner Alster) and Außenalster. Note that you will swim through a dark tunnel under the Kennedy Bridge, which is a unique challenge of this course.
When can I check my bike into transition?
For the Championship Finals, bike check-in typically occurs the day before the race (Saturday). Specific time slots are assigned by wave/category.
Is a wetsuit required?
Wetsuit rules follow World Triathlon regulations. The Alster water temperature in early September usually ranges between 18-21°C, making wetsuits usually optional or mandatory depending on the morning's official reading.
What is the bike course profile?
The course is very flat and fast, but technical with several sharp turns and potentially slippery cobblestones if it rains. It is a multi-lap format.
How do I get from the airport to the race venue?
Take the S-Bahn line S1 directly from Hamburg Airport (HAM) to 'Jungfernstieg'. The journey takes about 25 minutes and drops you 200m from the start line.
